College Fun: Benicia Runway Weekend

The hills of Benicia were alive with the sound of dance music this past weekend as fashionistas from all over the Bay Area answered to the call of style to take part in the annual Benicia Runway Weekend.

For local fashion enthusiasts who are unfamiliar with the small city, Benicia is a location to mark on the map as it’s becoming quite the local fashion hotspot. The city hosts a weekend-long fashion extravaganza featuring fashion events and a runway show once a year to benefit the local state parks. This year’s featured designers were Richard Hallmarq and Emily Payne, from Project Runway Seasons 11 and 13, and PATRICIA FIELD. Yes, that’s P-A-T-R-I-C-I-A F-I-E-L-D.

Any fashion lover knows Patricia Field and incredible styling goes together like Carrie Bradshaw and Manolo Blahniks. She was the woman responsible for bringing fashion to the forefront on TV shows by dressing the women we grew to know, love, and take style cues from on “Sex and the City”, as well as styling for “The Devil Wears Prada.”

Friday’s event, “Film, Fashion, and Cosmos”, was hosted at the Rellik Tavern an Ultra Lounge on First Street and featured a Q and A session with all three featured guests as well as a sneak peek of House of Field designs for the Saturday runway show. Not only was there fashion but also Cosmopolitans, courtesy of the sponsor Absolut Vodka. Sipping on my Cosmo with my best girlfriends made me feel like I was living my own episode of “Sex and the City”.

Things only got better when we met Patricia Field! (Many thanks to the Christina Strawbridge, owner of Christina S, for giving us this opportunity!) She was so sweet and kind as we went on thanking her for the impact she’s had on fashion. What a legend! We were also able to chat with both Richard and Emily.

Saturday evening was the runway show and energy was buzzing both before and after the show. Featured styles from Christina S, Be Chic Boutique, Emily Payne’s label Leather Tongue, Richard Hallmarq, and of course House of Field, were put on display as fashion bloggers and fashion PR gals  were snapping and Instagramming photos of the event.

This was my first year attending the Benicia Runway Weekend, but it won’t be my last. What’s great about these events is that you get to meet and experience high fashion in an intimate setting.  I never would have had the chance to meet such a fashion icon, as well as meet others in the fashion industry, without attending these events. All local fashion gals, mark this event on your calendar!

Here’s my roundup of photos from the Benicia Runway Weekend!

With Patricia Field as the featured guest for this year’s Benicia Runway Weekend, I’m extremely excited to see who’s coming next year! While it might be another year for the next fashion weekend, Benicia is still a fashionable location to visit for a weekend or even for a day trip. Be sure to check out Christina S, where you can find Richard Hallmarq designs, and Be Chic Boutique . After head over to the Rellik Tavern for a drink! (PS Their Champagne Cocktail is my faaaavorite)

College Eats: Review of Off the Grid/ Streatery

Yesterday, I got to enjoy the sun and some girl time with two of my best friends at Off the Grid in Pleasant Hill. For those unfamiliar, Off the Grid is a “roaming mobile food extravaganza” where a bunch of different food trucks that a serve a range of different foods set up in one location across the Bay Area. It’s the fun of getting food from a food truck without the slight paranoia you might be also be getting a case of food poisoning.

The trucks at the location change each week. This week offered a selection that included hot dog, curry, frozen custard, kabobs, and noodle trucks. The truck we ate from was called Streatery with a mission to serve real food made from scratch (and oh my goossh instant obession started).

The truck itself is the cutest to look at, with lanterns and chalkboard menus it’s like a hipster wedding on wheels and once you taste the food, it’s instant love.

The first thing that caught my eye off the menu was the Lemon Ricotta Doughnuts, and was a driving factor that went into my ordering the special which included the sandwich and Lavender Lemonade- but I was not disappointed with one single thing. At first I wasn’t sure about the jam on the sandwich, but it provides the perfect kiss of sweetness without clashing with the rest of the savory components. Also, THIS LEMONADE. Everything in my life needs to be lavender infused after drinking this. It wouldn’t be fair for me to try to describe how refreshing this is on a hot day-just promise me you’ll try it. I also wasn’t prepared for the adorable cup made from recycled paper that my doughnuts came in and the goodness that these doughnuts brought.

Here’s the menu, in case you’re wondering what else Streatery offers. My friends got the Spicy Peasant Rice with Pork Patties and the Spicy Fideo Noodles (which is like hybrid of rice and chow mein without the usual greasy texture). What’s great about the Off the Grid is that the trucks offer different specials, of which the proceeds benefit a local school. It’s a perfect way to support these small businesses and local schools all while enjoying new foods that might become your new favorites!
