Party Time: Holiday Waffle Soiree

The end of finals simultaneously means the start of holiday party season! There’s nothing better to look forward to than having multiple reasons to throw on some sparkles and enjoy a night with your friends. After a semester of waking up early and occasionally sacrificing breakfast to get to lecture on time what’s the perfect food to serve at your next get together? WAFFLES. Yes, waffles! Not only is it an insanely easy main dish to make (waffle iron + Bisquick), but eating breakfast at night (especially with some champagne) is a luxury even the beloved Tay-Tay Swift sings about it. PLUS any leftovers mean breakfast is made for the morning after!

So bust out that waffle iron, wrap yourself in tinsel, and gather your dearest mates  for a Holiday Waffle Soiree!

It feels like the perfect night, for breakfast at midnight….

Here’s the easy how-to on hosting your own Holiday Waffle Soiree:

  • Cover the serving area with brown postal paper. (This is sold by the roll at the Dollar Store, or craft stores). Not only does this make clean-up a cinch, but you can write cheeky sayings for your guests to read while they make their plates.
  • Include an assortment of toppings! Fruit toppings (cherry and blueberries), walnuts, sliced bananas, sprinkles, and of course syrup are easy and college-budget friendly options to start with.
  • Who doesn’t love bacon? To counteract the sweetness of the waffles, add some bacon, or sausages to your spread to add some savory options for your guests.
  • After a semester of paper deadlines and stress, it’s time to pop some bottles! Champagne and orange juice is all you need for making mimosas to complement this breakfast food feast.
  • Throw a plaid tablecloth on the table, add tinsel everywhere you see, and dj some holiday jams to start a Christmas dance party! Here’s a playlist to start with!
  • Eat, drink, and be merry with your lovelies!

DIY: Simple N’ Chic Serving Tray

DSC_0637

Hi, Collegiate Babes! It’s November already meaning the dreaded season of finals is fast approaching! Before you burrow yourself in your room for “study hibernation”, here’s a quick and easy DIY to add some glam to your study cave. It’s perfect to use on your dresser for candles, jewelry, and other keepsakes. It’s also a chic way to serve drinks to friends, particularly champagne to celebrate the end of school; or, pair it with a candle or cute tea cup and this could easily turn into a budget-friendly gift for the upcoming holiday season!  (more…)

DIY: Halloween Shirts

blog 2

Happy October, gals! While October 31st is right around the corner, there is still time for one last quick and simple Halloween DIY! This project is inspired by my love for t-shirts, a college gal’s wardrobe BFF. Any outfit can instantly carry an air of casual cool after throwing on a graphic t-shirt. I’ve created two different Halloween-esque designs perfect to wear whether you’re going out to the pumpkin patch, or enjoying a lazy morning eating pumpkin waffles.   (more…)

College Fun: Benicia Runway Weekend

The hills of Benicia were alive with the sound of dance music this past weekend as fashionistas from all over the Bay Area answered to the call of style to take part in the annual Benicia Runway Weekend.

For local fashion enthusiasts who are unfamiliar with the small city, Benicia is a location to mark on the map as it’s becoming quite the local fashion hotspot. The city hosts a weekend-long fashion extravaganza featuring fashion events and a runway show once a year to benefit the local state parks. This year’s featured designers were Richard Hallmarq and Emily Payne, from Project Runway Seasons 11 and 13, and PATRICIA FIELD. Yes, that’s P-A-T-R-I-C-I-A F-I-E-L-D.

Any fashion lover knows Patricia Field and incredible styling goes together like Carrie Bradshaw and Manolo Blahniks. She was the woman responsible for bringing fashion to the forefront on TV shows by dressing the women we grew to know, love, and take style cues from on “Sex and the City”, as well as styling for “The Devil Wears Prada.”

Friday’s event, “Film, Fashion, and Cosmos”, was hosted at the Rellik Tavern an Ultra Lounge on First Street and featured a Q and A session with all three featured guests as well as a sneak peek of House of Field designs for the Saturday runway show. Not only was there fashion but also Cosmopolitans, courtesy of the sponsor Absolut Vodka. Sipping on my Cosmo with my best girlfriends made me feel like I was living my own episode of “Sex and the City”.

Things only got better when we met Patricia Field! (Many thanks to the Christina Strawbridge, owner of Christina S, for giving us this opportunity!) She was so sweet and kind as we went on thanking her for the impact she’s had on fashion. What a legend! We were also able to chat with both Richard and Emily.

Saturday evening was the runway show and energy was buzzing both before and after the show. Featured styles from Christina S, Be Chic Boutique, Emily Payne’s label Leather Tongue, Richard Hallmarq, and of course House of Field, were put on display as fashion bloggers and fashion PR gals  were snapping and Instagramming photos of the event.

This was my first year attending the Benicia Runway Weekend, but it won’t be my last. What’s great about these events is that you get to meet and experience high fashion in an intimate setting.  I never would have had the chance to meet such a fashion icon, as well as meet others in the fashion industry, without attending these events. All local fashion gals, mark this event on your calendar!

Here’s my roundup of photos from the Benicia Runway Weekend!

With Patricia Field as the featured guest for this year’s Benicia Runway Weekend, I’m extremely excited to see who’s coming next year! While it might be another year for the next fashion weekend, Benicia is still a fashionable location to visit for a weekend or even for a day trip. Be sure to check out Christina S, where you can find Richard Hallmarq designs, and Be Chic Boutique . After head over to the Rellik Tavern for a drink! (PS Their Champagne Cocktail is my faaaavorite)

DIY: Cow Skull Statement Necklace

Happy September, everyone!  As fall approaches there’s so much to be excited for:  a new start at school, sweater weather, pumpkin spice lattes, and accessorizing! If you’re like me, most of your statement jewelry has stayed in storage during the sweltering summer months and it’s almost time to break them out again! This necklace takes inspiration from all the gypsy-chic styles I’ve been seeing lately (anyone else a Gypsy Warrior fan?)  Whether you wear it peeking out under a collar shirt or a vest, you’re bound to make a statement with this piece.  (more…)

Party Time: Welcome to the Circus!

Lions and tigers and bear oh my! I recently went to a French circus themed birthday party for my best friend Callie (who throws theme parties so thought-out T Swift would cry in party planning jealousy), and it was tres amusant! While there were no actual wild animals, there were a few of my other favorite party elements: balloons, photo booths, and cocktails, oh yes!

College Style: OOTD

Do you have that one piece of clothing that makes you feel so glam that you believe  you’re  the long-lost Kardashian sister? For me, that’s my faux-fur vest. After years and years of saying how much I wanted one, this past winter I finally joined the faux-fur vest club. But as the weather warmed up I feared that my days of walking around like a glamazon were over as my vest continually sat in in the back of my closet. That is, until I learned to style it for warmer weather. While I won’t promote wearing anything faux-fur in 90 degree weather, on breezy days styling this type of vest is as easy as sliding into a pair of high-waisted short and your favorite tank top, like I did for running errands today.

To finish off the look I wore high-top Converses, to dress the look down a bit  and my hair in my signature messy top-knot. As the summer continues I’ll be wishing for more breezy days so I can stay glam as fall approaches. Tell me what piece in your wardrobe makes you feel glamorous!

STYLE SHOUTOUT: Hanna Beth

For a college girl, the best style looks are the ones that are effortless to throw on, yet reflect a strong sense of style (because as much as sweatpants feel like heaven they’re completely void of any personality-much like your teacher’s voice droning on during a lecture).  Hanna Beth has been a style icon of mine for a quite awhile now and is the perfect muse for effortless looks. Once known as “Barbie Beth”, she’s a dark-haired, tattooed beauty, and has made her way as a model. Even out of the camera’s eye she’s always picture-perfect embodying the perfect blend of glam-rocker with dark lips and lots of layers.  For translating her style in your own wardrobe start with a wide-brim felt hat, which is completely on-trend for this fall, and a slouchy beanie. Also, pick pieces that are unique like a studded bag, or faux fur coat. However you mix your pieces then, it will look effortless but will be completely “you”.

Take a look at some of Hanna Beth’s look for this Style Shoutout.

Party Time: A Coachella-Inspired Night

BAYELLA-PARTY_2

I’ve never personally been to Coachella, but for a summer party the musical festival is the perfect  inspiration. The floral crowns, eclectic environment, and a “dress-as-you-please” mentality are the perfect elements for a fun night-whether it’s in Indio California, or your own backyard. This past weekend I hosted a girls night with Coachella as the main inspiration. So throw on your festival outfit and check out Bay’ella!

DIY: Graffiti Backpack

before_afterSchool may be out for the summer, but the trend of backpacks is still going strong.  Backpacks have received a design upgrade from the solid colored Jansport ones you once lugged around during Middle School (I had a hot pink one btw). Now, backpacks are meant to be a fashion statement to complement your outfit and reflect your personal style. They made an appearance on this years runways-most notably the Spring Chanel 2014 show. The Chanel Canvas Graffiti Backpack is the inspiration behind this DIY. So if you don’t have $3,400 to drop on a backpack (what do you mean you don’t??  haha), check this  project out!  (more…)
